Open Question: Transferring my windows media player library to another computer?

I just bought a laptop for the first time and I need to transfer my windows media library from my windows xp desktop to my new windows 7 laptop. Ive tried everything I know I can do such as plugging in my mp3 player (not an ipod), putting the music on flash drives and trying to transfer them that way, and nothing has been working correctly with the windows media player 12 pre-installed on my laptop. Does anyone know wat to do? Thanks for the help
