Open Question: buying a record player: modern or vintage?

I'm looking for a record player but unsure whether I should buy a modern one (i.e. those with a USB to transfer to mp3 files) or a vintage one. The only thing I'm looking for is to preserve the analog sound of vinyl, so if both do it then I guess it doesn't really matter. But I don't know, I'm just not sure. Any input would be appreciated!
